Any gamer would be frustrated if he lost his save files, especially after defeating a difficult boss. Some people prefer to locate and back up a game's save files in order to prevent situations like this. Certain games may store their save files in folders that are difficult to find, but this is not a problem for Gameston. It comes with its own games database and it is capable of backing up any save files, to a location of your choice.

Gameston is currently in Beta phase. It works on Windows 7 and Vista, but you can also run it on Windows XP, if you install an update. When you run the 3.39 MB setup file, you may choose a typical or a custom installation. If you opt for the typical installation, the setup wizard will start installing the software right away, without prompting you for anything.

The main section of the interface consists of a list, which you can populate with the games that you want to back up. A wizard will help you add new games to the list, so the procedure is not complicated. After detecting your installed games, the wizard will display them in a list and you may select the ones that you want to back up.

If a game is not included in the program's database, you can add it manually, by selecting its Save folder. Once your games are added to the main interface, you may select one and click different buttons, to back up its save files or to restore them. You may also bring up the backups folder, in Windows Explorer, access the software's backup logs, or modify a save path.

It is also possible to schedule automatic backups. Gameston can back up your save files every few minutes, hours or days. Additionally, you can select a different destination for the backups and set the program to launch automatically, when you start your computer. You should definitely be on the lookout for new updates or activate the software's automatic updates feature. The main reason is that Gameston may be able to merge with Steam Support in the near future.

Pros

Gameston comes with a large games database and it allows you to add your own games as well. You can back up your game saves, almost instantly, with only a few clicks. You can define your own backups folder and schedule automatic backups.

Cons

You can not schedule Gameston to back up your save files, at a specific time or date. While using Gameston, you will always have backup copies of your game saves, even if you forget to copy the files yourself.
